AAUW Mission and Vision
AAUW advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education and research. AAUW will be a powerful advocate and visible leader in equity and education through research, philanthropy, and measurable change in critical areas impacting the lives of women and girls.
Our new Value Promise
By joining AAUW we belong to a community that breaks through education and economic barriers so that all women have a fair chance.
Dear Members:
Ten members stayed overnight at the Waimea Plantation Cottages during the last week of June. After a dinner at the Wrangler’s restaurant, members attended a star program presented by 4 persons for the Astronomy Club. 2 powerful telescopes and a laser beam helped us identify constellations and view the craters and mountains on the moon. Breakfast was at the Obsessions Restaurant, the only place in Waimea that serves breakfasts. Kay Koike, member of our branch and a docent for the Waimea Sugar mill Museum gave us a guided tour of the Waimea Plantation Camp. Her stories of her childhood at the Kekaha Plantation added much to the tour.
Linda Sciaroni received a grant form the National Girls Collaborative Project–AAUW (the 2 organizations are partners) to conduct her Science Olympiad Camp here in Kauai this Fall.
AAUW’s year starts July 1 so the treasurer would appreciate your mailing in renewal fees. You have received the schedule from Rachel by now.
Welcome to 2 new members: Jackie Howar of Kalaheo, who had been a member of an AAUW branch in CA and Diane Sands, Student affiliate, who is working on her Master’s degree in Education, on line through U. of Phoenix.
Sept. meeting will be Sat. Sept. 12, 10 am. Program and place to be announced later. Pot luck lunch. Please bring shampoos, soaps, shower caps, etc collected during your vacation in hotels, etc. We will put them together into Welcome Bags for the Women’s Center.
